Poverty vs. Divorce

Joesph N. Ducantorty argues that divorce and poverty go together. Ducanto states that the property that has been acquired while two people are married is called marital property. He states that the government pays more attention to the child and not the mother. He tells us that when a parent that pay child support does not pay, will get their drivers license suspended, auto confiscated, and they will not be able to travel out of the United States. He goes on to talk about how child support debt cannot be repaid with loans or grants. Later on in the article he talks about how no state has the same divorce law as another. Lastly he states that one-half of the United States citizens is effected by divorce.

Emotions that Help

Velez, Wolchik, Tein, and Sandler argue that children are effected by parents getting divorced. They make claims that says how the children's stress levels are effected by divorce. They developed this claim by first stating that children who can cope efficacy, can deal with stressful emotions, this has also shown to act negatively on their mental health. Then they state that children with good relationships with their mothers have are more likely to cope actively. They also state that they way a child copes depends on its gender. Girls and boys cope differently sometimes. They show that children who have a positive emotions with accepting mothers might counter negative emotions. Lastly they state that children with a high-quality relationship are likely to have an increase in coping efficacy (Causey & Dubow,1993.)

Between Me and You!

Paul R. Amato and Jacob E. Cheadle argues that children who experience divorce are not all effected or
develop a serious problem. They state that the more a child is exposed to a divorce the more likely they are
to have problems. According to Amato and Cheadle parents with personality traits or antisocial behavior are
more likely to have children with the same problem. They blame children's problems on the discord between
parents. The argue that conflict between parents causes more stress for the children and that parents who
have conflicts with each other are more likely to have conflicts with their children. When parents have to many conflicts it can cause children to have low self-esteem because children will blame themselves for their parents problems (Grych & Fincham). When parents have conflicts it not only effects themselves but it also effects their relationship with thier children.

Children Divorce Wordle

I got my infomation from my own thoughts and my siblings thoughts of Children's parents getting divorced.

My questions!

Which one?
·         Which parent is more likely to leave?
How?
·         How does divorce effect children?
What if?
·         What if the child lives with their father compared to their mother?
Should?
·         Should people get married when they have/having a child?
Why?
·         Why do children mostly live with their mother compared to their father?

I want to figure out the long term effects of divorce on the children. I want to find out this because I am a child of divorced parents and they are now remarried. I hope to find this out by doing my research and finding tons of information.
